The Dial magazine editorial internship Spring-Summer 2026

Art of Writing provides UC Berkeley undergraduates with paid literary internship opportunities (writing, editing, social media, etc.) with partner organizations.

The Dial online magazine returns as our partner to host an Art of Writing intern. This remote Spring and Summer 2026 internship comes with a $3,000 stipend provided by Art of Writing.

The hired intern must keep a monthly informal written log of activities and reflections, shared with Art of Writing, in order to receive their stipend. Art of Writing may also conduct an informal Zoom debrief of the experience at the end of the internship.

The application will close at midnight on January 10, 2026.

About The Dial

The Dial is the world’s little magazine, a space where daring writers stage global conversations unconstrained by geography. We feature original long-form reporting, criticism, and works of literature, as well as translations of the best writing we come across from beyond the anglosphere. We publish writers who write the world as they see it—from wherever they might be.

We have featured work by, among others, Annie Ernaux, Celine Sciamma, Lauren Elkin (France), Kaya Genc (Turkey), Sir Hilary Beckles (Jamaica), Fernanda Melchor (Mexico), Snigdha Poonam (India). As part of our mission to bring the widest range of voices into English, we are also partnered with magazines around the world, from Brazil to Ukraine.

We take our name from a magazine with a storied history: The Dial was founded in 1840 as the progressive voice of a young nation and established a reputation on the vanguard of political and cultural conversation; it reinvented itself several times over the following decades, always looking outward. We are building on this history of conversation and literary invention with an international, 21st-century vision of The Dial inspired by our predecessors’ ambitions to found a “Journal in a new spirit.”
